A Local Perspective on Hokkaido
Akira
Since entering the travel industry in 2009, Akira has spent more than fifteen years helping international travelers discover Japan and Hokkaido.
Living in Hokkaido and traveling extensively across the region throughout the year, he has personally explored luxury hotels, traditional ryokan, ski resorts, restaurants, scenic routes, and remote destinations — from Niseko and Furano to eastern Hokkaido.
Rather than creating generic itineraries, Akira focuses on designing journeys that reflect each guest's interests, pace, and travel style.
His philosophy is simple: the best journeys are built on local knowledge, honest recommendations, and genuine hospitality.
Today, Hokkaido Compass helps travelers discover a quieter, more authentic side of Hokkaido through private transfers, tailor-made itineraries, local insights, and concierge-level support.
"The best journeys are not only about where you go, but how deeply you experience a place."

Why Travelers Trust Us
Hokkaido-based, AI-augmented — built by locals, not a generic OTA.
Deep Local Expertise
Routes, restaurants, and ryokans curated by people who actually live in Hokkaido.
Winter Safety Awareness
We proactively warn about road closures, blizzards, and unrealistic drive times.
Hidden Restaurants
Beyond top-10 lists: counter sushi, izakaya, soup curry that locals actually go to.
Multilingual Support
English · 简体中文 · 繁體中文 · 日本語 · 한국어 — both AI and human concierge.
Realistic Pacing
We won't cram Otaru, Furano and Hakodate into one day. Travel fatigue matters.
Private Transport Support
Real local fleet — sedans, minivans, ski-luggage vans with multilingual drivers.
Why Hokkaido
Hokkaido is Japan, slowed down. Wide roads, vast skies, hot springs that locals share with deer, kitchens that source from one valley. We build trips around that quietness, not around it.
Life In Hokkaido
Our team lives here year-round. We drive the same winter roads, queue at the same morning markets, and ask the same ryokan okami if a room with a quieter side has opened up.
Local Network
Twelve years of working with the same ryokan owners, drivers, ski instructors, sushi chefs and tea masters. When something matters to a guest, we usually know whom to call by name.
Travel Philosophy
Less, but better. We would rather give you two nights at the right ryokan than four nights moving every morning. We measure a trip in long baths and unhurried mornings, not photos taken.
Personal Recommendations
Aoiike at first light, the small okonomiyaki spot on the corner near Nishi 18-chome, the Saturday morning farm market in Niseko's off season, the south-side bath at Takinoya in November snow.
