How long the winter drive really takes, what can delay it, and how a private transfer differs from the bus or train.

Winter changes the clock

In normal conditions the drive from New Chitose Airport to Niseko takes about 2.5 hours. After heavy snow it can take about 3.5 hours. Daylight is also short in winter, so a late-afternoon arrival often means driving the mountain section in the dark.

If snow or a road closure is expected

We leave earlier or take a different route, and we tell you ahead of time.

Three ways to travel

  • A bus has a fixed schedule and route; you carry and load your own bags.
  • A train needs transfers, then another ride to your hotel.
  • A private transfer meets you at arrivals and takes you to your door, with the departure time adjusted to your flight and the road.

Luggage and ski gear

An Alphard fits about 3 to 4 large suitcases and is not suited to carrying skis. A HiAce Grand Cabin fits about 9 large suitcases and about 2 sets of ski gear, stored in the aisle. Tell us your passengers, bags and gear, and we recommend the right vehicle.
