Your first snow trip: planning a Hokkaido ski or snow day for families
Which resorts suit beginners and children, what to wear, and how to pace the day.

Start with a beginner-friendly resort
For a first trip with children or older family members, we suggest Rusutsu or Hoshino Tomamu. Both suit beginners and families.
Dress for the cold
Wear warm layers, waterproof outer clothing, gloves and a hat. Ski gear can be rented at both resorts.
Pace the day
Beginners are best on the slopes for about 3 to 4 hours. Intermediate and advanced skiers can stay the whole day. Plan around the youngest and oldest in your group, and leave room for hot drinks and rest.
Have a plan for bad weather
If the weather turns, we adjust the day on the spot, for example moving to a warm indoor stop.
Travel together, comfortably
A private vehicle takes the whole family door to door with luggage, and we adapt the timing to the group. For prices, see Pricing & quotes.
