Sapporo to Furano Transfer
Furano is two and a half to three hours inland from Sapporo, and the drive is half the reason to go. With a private car you can stop at the Blue Pond in Biei, walk a lavender field before the tour coaches arrive, and still reach your ryokan in time for dinner.

What you get
Stops built into the drive
Blue Pond, Shirogane Waterfall, Shikisai-no-oka, Farm Tomita or the Patchwork Road — pick two or three and we time them around the coach groups.
Lavender season timing
Peak bloom runs from roughly early July to early August. Mornings before nine and evenings after four are far quieter, and a private car is the only way to be there then.
Winter route as well
Furano and Tomamu ski trips run all winter. Snow-covered farmland is beautiful, but the road demands winter tyres and a driver who knows it.
Onward to Asahikawa or Biei stays
Many guests continue to Asahiyama Zoo, Aoi-ike at dusk or an Asahikawa hotel. We can plan the transfer as a one-way run or as a full charter day.
Good to know
- Direct Sapporo to Furano is about 2h30; with Biei sightseeing stops allow five to six hours.
- Farm Tomita is free to enter but its car park fills by mid-morning in July.
- The Blue Pond is lit in the evening from November to April — worth timing if you stay nearby.
- Snow tyres are fitted from November through April on every vehicle on this route.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I go by train instead?
- The train reaches Furano station but not the flower farms, which are spread across the countryside with limited buses. Most guests who take the train end up hiring a car locally anyway.
- Can we do Furano and Biei as a day trip from Sapporo?
- Yes, as a long charter day of about eleven hours. It works, but staying one night in Furano or Asahikawa gives you the quiet early morning in the fields.
- Is Furano worth visiting outside lavender season?
- Yes. September brings harvest colours and quiet roads, winter brings powder at Furano and Tomamu, and the Biei hills photograph well in every season.
- How many people fit with luggage?
- An Alphard seats four comfortably with four cases. Groups of five to nine travel in a Hiace Grand Cabin. Send us your numbers and we confirm the vehicle before you pay anything.
